The Early Years Foundation Stage is made up of seven areas of learning and development.
Children’s learning is holistic and interconnected, however, the three most significant areas (known as prime areas) to support and build upon are: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development. If a child makes steady progress in these three areas then progress in the four remaining areas (known as the specific areas) will automatically follow. The specific areas are: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world and Expressive Arts and Design.
All of the above elements that make up the Early Years Foundation Stage are incorporated into the children’s day-to-day activities and experiences.
